To achieve the finest performance, Volvo offers several transmission options including a 12-speed Volvo I-Shift gearbox and its heavy-duty version, a 13- or 14-speed I-Shift transmission with crawler gears, and a 6-speed gearbox by Allison.

The VNL model is available in various cab configurations. Volvo uses its own number designation to indicate the roof height and size of the sleeper. For instance, the VNL 740 stands for a mid-roof and 70-inch sleeper configuration; the bed measures 81"x39". The VNL 860 has a 77-inch sleeper with a higher roof and a wider bed (79"x42"). If you need the truck like the 740 but featuring a higher roof, there is the 760 model. The VNL 400 has a 42-inch sleeper and a 36-inch wide bed; the day cab version is named the VNL 300.
