In 1936, Thomas started manufacturing school buses. Two years later, the company introduced its innovation – the first school bus with a steel body.

In 1977, Thomas Built Buses introduced its first bus chassis that became the basis for Saf-T-Liner buses. The company continued its steady growth after it was acquired by Daimler. Today, besides Saf-T-Liner C2 powered by a diesel Cummins or Detroit DD5, the company offers its hybrid variant (C2e). Also, the liquid propane or CNG-fueled C2 is available.
