Air Lift

Troubleshooting

  • LoadController
  • Load Controller II and AirTight Systems
  • Air Bags with no Compressor System
  • Load Controller I Systems
    • Compressor does not come on when the inflate button is pushed.
      Cause Action
Wired incorrectly. Review wiring per installation manual.
      Blown fuse. Replace fuse.
Faulty Compressor. Connect directly to battery through fused wire to verify that it isn’t a wiring problem.
Gauges are not accurate to a tire gauge or other gauge
      Cause Action
Wired incorrectly. Review wiring per installation manual.
      Blown fuse. Replace fuse.
Faulty Compressor. Connect directly to battery through fused wire to verify that it isn’t a wiring problem.
Compressor comes on, but pressure does not build
      Cause Action
Wired incorrectly. Review wiring per installation manual.
      Blown fuse. Replace fuse.
Faulty Compressor. Connect directly to battery through fused wire to verify that it isn’t a wiring problem.
    • Compressor comes on by itself and will not shut off by itself
      Cause Action
Wired incorrectly. Review wiring per installation manual.
      Blown fuse. Replace fuse.
Faulty Compressor. Connect directly to battery through fused wire to verify that it isn’t a wiring problem.
Fits open coil springs, front or rear
      Cause Action
Wired incorrectly. Review wiring per installation manual.
      Blown fuse. Replace fuse.
Faulty Compressor. Connect directly to battery through fused wire to verify that it isn’t a wiring problem.
    • Horizontal cut in the side of the air bag. Bag leaks
      Cause Action
Air bag bottomed out. Rubber flex member was pinched between two ends of air bag. Insufficient pressure in air bags for load. Replace air bag and increase pressure. Work your way down to desired result. For motorhomes, start at 100 psi.
Air bag bottomed out. Air bag is suspension limiter in compression. Add or adjust jounce bumper for full contact before air bag bottoms out, especially for 4WD vehicles.
#1 cause of air bag mutilation is insufficient pressure for load or use. Consider adding a Load Controller for convenient air pressure adjustment.
Insufficient pressure in air bags for amount of suspension travel. Must increase pressure when more suspension travel is needed.
      Other cut on air bag
      Cause Action
      Road debris Replace air bag.
Insufficient clearance around air bag and is cut by object attached to vehicle. Move object out of the path of the air bag. Must have a minimum of ½" clearance around bag. Replace air bag.
Flex member rolled into mounting hardware. Improperly installed. Correct the installation and replace the air bag.
Rub mark on air bag. Bag leaks
      Cause Action
      Road debris Replace air bag.
Insufficient clearance around air bag. Check for alignment and adjustment of air bag to frame or tire. Re-adjust away from frame or tire. Also check for clearance to brake cable, etc.
Some kits call for a minimum clearance between frame and tire. Check installation manual.
      Air bag is melted
      Cause Action
Not shielded from exhaust system. Possible incorrect installation. Install heat shield kit. Replace air bag. Call Tech Support for heat shield kit.
      Air Spring will not inflate
      Cause Action
Air is leaking out too fast due to a massive leak Make sure all air line connections are ok especially at air bag fitting.
Inspect entire length of air line for damage or melted air lines. Replace as necessary.
Check air bag for massive leak or hole.
Air spring will not hold air (more than 2-3 psi/week)
      Cause Action
Check to make sure schrader valve is tight
Flex member is pulled away from the crimp
      Cause Action
Ends of air bag are not parallel causing uneven stress in extension. Poor installation. Adjust air bag. Replace air bag.
Over-extended air bag during rough driving. Add suspension limiting straps if necessary.
    • Push switch to left and air does not go into the correct gauge or air bag
      Cause Action
Wired incorrectly. Review wiring per installation manual.
      Blown fuse. Replace fuse.
Faulty Compressor. Connect directly to battery through fused wire to verify that it isn’t a wiring problem.
