    • Does the BakFlip lock?

The BakFlip is an incredibly secure tonneau cover. As you close the panels of the BakFlip, they will automatically latch down shut and be secured under the rails of the tonneau cover. The panels cannot be opened unless you’re able to access the release cables underneath the panels. This can easily be done from either the driver or passenger side of the truck. This unique locking system means that there are no keyholes or locks exposed to the elements or potential thieves. All securing mechanisms are neatly concealed under the cover where it is safest. This is a patented design, unique to BakFlip covers. In order to gain access to your truck and fold the BakFlip panels forward, you will first have to access to the open tailgate of your truck. For absolute security, you will need to lock your tailgate. In most instances, the key you drive with is the key you’ll lock your tailgate and (therefore your cover) with.

BAK Industries provides tailgate locks for most pickup trucks and will work with you on multiple alternatives if your truck is a custom rig or a unique model that is old or made outside of the USA.

Absolutely not! The BakFlip is equipped with solid rubber bumpers under the cover. When the BakFlip is folded all the way forward, these solid rubber bumpers protect the cab and the rear window from being scuffed or damaged. There is no movement at all when the cover is propped against your cab. Also, the third brake light is always visible, which means driving with the cover open is street legal in all states.

Will the BakFlip work with my factory track / rail system?

Yes! The BakFlip is custom designed to work with your specific truck. Whether you drive a Nissan, Toyota, Chevy, Dodge or Ford, the BakFlip is designed to integrate with your factory equipped cargo management system.

Will my BakFlip work with bed extenders?

Yes, the BakFlip rails are very low profile and will always allow you to use your bed extender without modification.

Can I stand on my BakFlip?

Yes, however BAK Industries does not recommend standing on the top (visible surface of the cover). The BakFlip is designed to fold. Each time you fold it, it gains in strength and the amount of weight it can handle. More importantly, when you fold it, the underside is exposed, rather than the top surface. If you’re going to stand on your cover, flip it over first and then stand on it. It will handle 300 lbs of weight on top of it and will not show any damage, should you damage the texture of the cover by standing on it. The BakFlip can be used as a true scaffold when it is flipped.

What's the difference between the BakFlip G2, HD and F1?

The BAKFlip G2, HD, F1, and CS Tonneau Covers all install and function identically! The primary difference from one cover model to the other is its thickness and surface material.

      • BakFlip G2 Tonneau Cover. As of 2010 is an all aluminum tonneau cover. The BakFlip G2 is made to be America's toughest-working, best-looking, most practical and functional tonneau cover. It will stand up to most anything life can throw at it. From severe temperatures to everyday use, the BakFlip G2 will be there for you when you need it. Best of all, it will be there for you when you don't need it! The BakFlip is the only tonneau cover that will allow you to have the complete use of the bed of your truck. That's because its patented "Quad Fold" feature that allows your cover to simply fold completely out of the way. The G2 is made from heavy-duty EPS panels that are laminated with a powder coated aluminum finish. These panels are framed with rugged, aircraft-grade aluminum extrusions. Rubber seals finish this incredible tonneau cover, rendering it outstanding in very rainy climates. Strong, automatically engaging slam latches adorn the underside of the BakFlip G2. Just one tug of the release cable will automatically operate the latches on either side of the truck at the same time. This allows you to flip your BakFlip panels forward. Flush-fitting elevator bolts and glass-filled nylon quick-release knobs are included. The BakFlip G2 usually ships in two boxes: part one containing the tonneau cover and part two containing the tonneau rails. As a rule of thumb, if your pickup truck is less than 6 foot long, your BakFlip will ship in just one box. The G2 is equipped with a 1-year factory warranty, which covers the tonneau from front to back and top to bottom against defects in materials and workmanship.
      • BakFlip HD Tonneau Cover is a step up from the G2. At first glance, the G2 and the HD are quite similar. Their finish on top of the cover is actually identical. They are both all aluminum tonneau covers and both operate the same way. The BakFlip HD has injection-molded handles under the cover, giving it a more refined operational feel and appearance when it is opened. The HD has a core that is more rigid than the G2’s as well, making it sound like a high-end automobile when you open and close the panels. The distinctive sound is unmistakably HD! The HD also has newly designed rail (weather) seals, powder coated pivoting rods to keep the cover open while driving and is backed by a rock-solid 2-year BakFlip warranty.
      • BakFlip F1 is exactly the same as the HD, but has a top surface made from an FRP (fiberglass reinforced polymer). The FRP is extremely strong and impact resistant! This is the flagship of the BakFlip line and is perfect if you live in an area that is subject to heavy hail storms. If you're particularly rough on your cover, the BakFlip F1 is your cover. It's elegant, top of the line and as tough as nails! The BakFlip F1 also has a 2-year warranty.
Do I need to drill my truck when I install my BakFlip?

No, a BakFlip installation is very easy! Your BakFlip will easily clamp onto the rail of your truck with BAK’s specially designed, easy-to-use clamp system. All that’s required to install a typical BakFlip cover is one 15mm wrench. There are just 3 clamps to tighten on each side of the truck bed. There are generally 4 clamps on each side when installing a truck that has an 8-inch bed (long bed pickup).

How long does it take to install a BakFlip cover?

A typical BakFlip cover takes about 20 minutes to install. If you’ve installed one before it shouldn’t take more than 10 minutes or so. The BakFlip is extremely easy to install, and since it fits inside the bed and follows the inner contours and lines of your truck, there is no guess work or issues of alignment with which to contend.

Can I drive with my BakFlip in the open position?

Yes, the BakFlip can be operated in your choice of 5 positions: Completely shut, ¼ open, half-open, ¾ open and all the way open. Provision is built into the BakFlip panels so that they automatically secure when shut. Specially integrated D-rings on top and under the cover allow you to secure the panels down for additional safety when driving. Patented locking arm stays are integrated into the BakFlip’s rails that pivot forward and allow you to lock the panels when they are in their full upright position.

Is my vision blocked when I drive with the BakFlip in the full-open position?

The BakFlip is designed so that it can be operated in increments. This means that you can drive with the cover in the full-open position or any of the other 4 incremental options, e.g. all the way shut, half open, 3/4 open, etc. The full open position is generally reserved for those times when you’re hauling a full load such as a couch or a desk. It’s at these times where your rear view is blocked anyway. Naturally, you will need to make use of your side view mirrors when you drive with the cover locked in the fully upright position, much like you would if you had a camper shell or were towing a 5th wheel. Please note that you do not need to drive with the cover full open. Incremental operation is a luxury of the BakFlip as well.

How much does the BakFlip weigh?

BakFlip covers vary in size, depending on whether it fits a short bed or a long bed truck. A typical cover, together with its rails, will weight approximately 55 lbs.

What are the BakFlip panels made from?

BakFlip panels are actually sandwich panels. Although they are relatively light in weight, they are extremely strong. The exterior is either impact-resistant fiberglass polymer or aircraft-grade aluminum. The inner core of the BakFlip is a super dense EPS (polystyrene). This allows the BakFlip panels to be insulated and impact resistant. Most importantly, the panels are completely watertight.

Can I color match or paint my BakFlip panels?

Yes, the BakFlip HD can be painted as the panels are made from aluminum. BAK Industries does not paint at its factory, however your local body shop can paint the cover as easily as painting your truck.

Can I use my BakFlip with a bedliner?

Yes, the BakFlip is designed to work with any spray-on, carpet or under-the-rail bedliner. It will also work with bed rail caps such as ProCaps.

Can I use the BakFlip with my bed extender?

Yes, the BakFlip is very low profile. The rails extend into the bed by a mere ¾ inch on each side. Tilting your bed extender is no problem at all.

Can I use the BakFlip with a rack?

Yes, the BakFlip will work with certain kinds of racks. BAK Industries has made the BakFlip CS, which has an integrated sliding rack. This combination is the perfect union between the rack and tonneau cover and gives you the ultimate set up for your truck. The rack slides and locks into any position along the side rails of your truck while the cover operates independently, offering security and function.

Can I use the BakFlip with bed rails or tie-downs?

Yes, the BakFlip’s patented design ensures that you always have full access to stake pockets. The cover sits a mere 1/8 of an inch over the edge of your truck’s rails. Using all sorts of tie-downs or bed rails in conjunction with the BakFlip is not a problem at all.

      Where is the BakFlip made?

In the good old USA! And that’s the way it will always stay! BAK Industries makes all of its tonneau covers at its plant in San Fernando, California.

      Is my BakFlip waterproof?

No truck bed covers are completely waterproof. That said, the BakFlip is designed to keep in excess of 98% of water out of your truck bed. A tiny drip close to the tailgate is not uncommon. This is largely due to airflow that allows moisture to be sucked back into the truck through the gaps around your tailgate. There are patented drain tubes that are designed to drain all water that’s collected in your rails, out of the truck bed. When water falls on top of your hinges on the the BakFlip, it is directed towards the BakFlip rails. These rails have an integrated gutter in them, which will carry the water down toward the front corners of your truck bed and then drain out of the tubes in each corner. The natural tendency for your truck is to be higher at the tailgate and lower at the front end. As such, water will generally be driven toward the front corners of your bed when it gets into your rails. If your truck is parked up a hill, then water will flow backwards towards your tailgate and then out of the truck accordingly. BakFlip covers are very watertight, but not guaranteed against very minor drips here or there.

Will my hinges or my seals of my BakFlip ever wear out?

Absolutely not! The rubber hinges and seals are made from a synthetic EPDM, which can withstand any UV light over long periods of time and sever temperatures that cannot even be reached on earth.

      How is the BakFlip packaged?

BakFlip is certified to have the highest rating that a package can qualify for through UPS. We have triple A ratings on our boxes. In addition, the BakFlip is cocooned in an expandable foam with fills every nook and cranny of the box so that you can abuse the box to the extreme and still find that the BakFlip arrives at it’s final destination in stellar condition.

    • Do I need to drill my truck when I install my RollBak tonneau cover?

No. The RollBak G2 tonneau cover is designed to clamp onto the truck’s rails. It consists of a canister as well as a set of rails. Each rail mounts independently of one another with simple clamps that are easy to use. The canister is usually mounted with a couple of self-tapping screws on each side as BAK Industries finds this to be the most secure and strongest method of installing it, but the RollBak canister can just as easily be clamped onto the rail.

How long does it take to install a RollBak cover?

A typical RollBak cover takes about an hour to install. If you've installed one before, it shouldn't take more than 30 to 45 minutes or so. The RollBak G2 tonneau cover has been completely redesigned from the ground up and is far easier to install than most retractable tonneau covers. The canister spring is prewound and the tension of the tonneau cover is preset at factory level. The rails are adjustable, but are also preset at factory level, making for a much faster install that one might expect.

Can I drive with my RollBak tonneau cover in the open position?

Yes, the RollBak retractable tonneau cover is designed to lock into position in multiple areas, anywhere along the side rail of your truck. This means that you can drive with it in any open position. The RollBak G2 tonneau cover has a uniquely designed dual-latching system that automatically latches the cover in any desired incremental position. This makes it the choice of all folks that haul 5th wheels, boats or other toys that need hauling.

Is my vision blocked when I drive with the RollBak in any position?

No. The RollBak is extremely low profile and will not block your vision at all.

      Does the RollBak lock?

The RollBak G2 is an incredibly secure tonneau cover. As you close the RollBak, it automatically latches against the side rails of your truck. When you get to the final position, the RollBak is locked securely and can only be opened by accessing the underside of the cover. With the tailgate closed and locked, the RollBak G2 tonneau is, without question, the most secure tonneau cover in the industry. Best of all, there are no exposed key holes, no aftermarket keys to contend with, no visible locks to pick or damage, and, in most instances, the key you drive with is the key you’ll secure the cover with.

What if my tailgate doesn’t lock?

BAK Industries provides tailgate locks for most pickup trucks and will work with you on multiple alternatives if your truck is a custom rig or a unique model that is old or made outside of the USA.

Will the RollBak work with my factory track / rail system?

Yes! The RollBak tonneau cover is custom designed to work with your specific truck. Whether you drive a Nissan, Toyota, Chevy, Dodge or Ford, the RollBak G2 tonneau cover is designed to integrate with your factory-equipped cargo management system.

Can I stand on my RollBak tonneau cover?

Yes. The new RollBak G2 is designed to handle 400 lb of weight on top of it.

How much does the RollBak weigh?

RollBak covers vary in size, depending on whether it fits a short bed or a long bed truck. A typical RollBak tonneau cover, together with its rails, will weigh approximately 100 to 120 lbs.

What is the RollBak G2 tonneau cover made from?

RollBak tonneau covers are made of super heavy-duty, aircraft-grade aluminum slats that are watertight and attached to each other by way of a patented extrusion, which allows the RollBak slats to link to each other like tongue and groove. The slats are powder coated with a virtually indestructible baked-on finish. The finish is designed to be rugged, not show scratches and can absorb massive amounts of impact. The underside of the RollBak slats are felt lined with a mildew-protected, marine-grade felt that deadens sound, insulates the cover and protects the slats when they are rolled up inside the canister. The RollBak tonneau’s canister is made from an impact-resistant ABS and designed to absorb shock and impact. It cannot dent and is rounded to expel unwanted water quickly and more efficiently than other types of retractable tonneau covers.

Can I color match or paint my RollBak?

RollBak tonneau covers can be powder coated to match various colors, but are made factory black as a general rule of thumb.

Can I use my RollBak with a bedliner?

Yes. The RollBak tonneau cover is designed to work with most bedliners. Spray-on liners and carpet liners are generally of no consequence, however some drop-in bedliners need to be slightly modified to accommodate the canister portion of the RollBak tonneau cover.

Can I use the RollBak with my bed extender?

Yes. The RollBak has lower-profile rails than all retractable tonneau covers, and as such do not pose a problem with most bed extenders. In some instances, bed extenders need to be narrowed or modified.

Can I use the RollBak tonneau cover with a rack?

Yes, as long as the rack is a stake pocket-mounted rack and does not hang over the inside edge of your truck bed rails.

Can I use the RollBak tonneau cover with bed rails or tie-downs?

Yes, the RollBak G2 tonneau cover’s patented design ensures that you always have full access to stake pockets. The RollBak rests just 1/8 of an inch over the edge of your truck’s rails. Using all sorts of tie-downs or bed rails in conjunction with the RollBak tonneau cover is easy.

Where is the RollBak tonneau cover made?

In the good old USA! And that’s the way it will always stay! BAK Industries makes all of its tonneau covers at its plant in San Fernando, California.

How far above or below the rail will the RollBak tonneau sit?

The RollBak sits flush with the top edge of your rails. It has a patented “no-profile” appearance and fit. It follows the interior contours of your truck for an absolutely unparalleled fit. The thickness of the slats measures about an inch.

Is my RollBak tonneau cover waterproof?

No truck bed covers are completely waterproof. The RollBak tonneau is however extremely well designed to keep most, if not all, water out of your truck bed. The RollBak canister is designed to collect water, which is then funneled out of the truck through tubes that pass through holes that exist in the truck bed or behind your bedliner. A good installation is oftentimes the difference between a tonneau cover that leaks and one that is watertight.

Will my spring of my RollBak tonneau cover ever wear out?

Absolutely not! The spring is stainless steel and is very strong indeed. It is designed to outlast your truck. Replacement springs are readily available in the very rare instance that this will ever happen.

How is the RollBak cover packaged?

RollBak tonneau covers are certified to have the highest rating that a package can qualify for through UPS. We have triple A ratings on our boxes. In addition, the RollBak is cocooned in an expandable foam with fills every nook and cranny of the box so that you can abuse the box to the extreme and still find that the RollBak arrives at it?s final destination in stellar condition.

    • Do all of these covers lock and secure the truck bed like a trunk of a car?

Absolutely! The BAKFlip cover comes with a Tamperproof Latching system. There are no visible locks or keyholes or latches as the cover latches and secures from underneath. This makes the BAKFlip Tonneau Cover one of the most secure tonneau cover on the market. When the cover is closed, and the tailgate is locked, you now have the equivalent of an "armored trunk."

Can I unlatch the cover from either side?

Absolutely! You have easy access to "latch pulls" on both the driver's side and passenger side.

My truck does not have a factory installed tailgate lock. Will I be able to secure my truck bed with the cover without one?

No. In order to keep the cargo secure in the bed of your truck, you need to have a tailgate lock. As long as the tailgate is locked, your cover is completely secured, as no one can open the cover without unlocking the tailgate.

When the cover is closed, do I need to open the tailgate to unlock the cover?

Yes. You will need to open your tailgate to be able to begin unlatching the cover at the last panel.

Do the latches that secure the panels latch to both sides of the bed?

Yes. Panels latch securely to both bed.

Can you unlatch the cover from either side?

Absolutely! You have access to "latch pulls" on both the driver's side and passenger side.

    • What is the BAKFlip made out of?

The BAKFlip G2 is now all metal, using textured aluminum for all flat panel surfaces above and below it. This incredibly durable panel has a single coat of epoxy primer that is baked on at 460 degrees. Once the primer has set, an extraordinarily tough and scratch-resistant polyester-based coating is used as the final finishing coat (which gives the look of a tough, baked-on enamel, but is much higher quality). This coating process ensures that the cover is both scratch and UV resistant. Each panel is cut precisely using "CNC" controls, which are computer-guided controls that ensure that your cover, panels, and rails are cut precisely at the correct curvature and angle matching the structure and shape of your truck bed perfectly! This ensures a perfect and customized fit on every truck. The core between the two surface panels is an Expanded Polystyrene (EPS) core. This is the same material that is used as the cover of a surfboard! This means that the structural interior of the cover is lightweight, rigid and impervious to water! Should water ever find its way into the center of the panel (which would be really difficult), it will never deteriorate from the inside as it is unaffected by moisture, so it will never deteriorate or delaminate as a result! Each panel is then neatly framed in powder coated, aircraft-quality aluminum for a lifetime of indestructible use! These panels will not crack, warp, fade, rust, or corrode and can handle up to 300 lbs of evenly distributed weight. This means that snow loads are never a problem!

How many panels does the cover have?

That depends on the length of the truck bed. All Beds 69 inches or shorter have 3 folding panels. All beds longer than 69 inches have 4 folding panels!

What is the core material of each panel?

The core between the two coated textured proprietary hard paneled surface sheets is Expanded Polystyrene (EPS), which is impervious to water and very lightweight and rigid (it is the same material used as the core of the best surfboards). Should water ever find its way into the center of the panel (which would be really difficult), the interior of the cover will never deteriorate from the inside nor is it affected by moisture, so the core will never deteriorate or delaminate as a result!

BAK Industries says its cover folds thanks to a breakthrough design called "The Living Hinge." What is a "Living Hinge?"

The revolutionary "living hinge" system is developed to ensure water resistance. Each living hinge consists of a seamless EPDM flexible rubber covering over rigid aluminum supports. EPDM is the same material used as factory weather stripping around your car's doors and windshield. The flexibility of this rubber is what allows the cover to fold easily without a traditional hinge design.

      What is EPDM?

EPDM rubber (ethylene propylene diene monomer rubber) is a very heavy-duty rubber for use in extreme conditions and is used in automotive weather stripping and seals around windows and doors, a radiator, garden and appliance hoses, tubing, belts, electrical insulation, roofing membranes, etc. It is an extremely tough rubber that can withstand high heat, and maintain flexibility for many years to come!

      What are "Self-Backing" Clamps?

Innovative Self-Backing clamps are used to secure the side rails. These low-profile clamps allow you to hold the clamp in place with one use the other hand to wield the wrench to tighten the clamp! Only one wrench is needed as the bolt is "self-backing" when tightening.

What are the mounting rails made out of?

The rails are extruded from aircraft-quality aluminum and then powder coated for unmatched durability. The exposed surfaces of the rails are 100% powder coated.

Is there any protection between the mounting rails and the painted side rails?

Yes! There is a rigid protective strip underneath the mounting rails so it will never damage the painted or rail surface underneath it.

How far does each side rail protrude inside from the rail into the bed of the truck?

Only 1 inch on each side! This allows plenty of clearance for the use of all bed extenders.

Is the surface of the cover smooth or textured?

The cover has a light texture very similar to the back top step of most truck bumpers, plastic side rails, mirror trim moldings, etc.

What color are the covers made in?

All of BAK Industries covers come in a beautiful satin black color only. As a result, it looks factory installed!

      How strong are the panels?

Extremely strong! These covers can handle 300 lbs of evenly distributed weight. Snow loads are never a problem. Even when this cover has been subjected to destructive hail storms that have severely damaged trucks causing thousands of dollars worth of damage, BAK Industries has never had a cover damaged by hail and does not expect it to happen!

What is the total thickness of the cover when mounted to the bed of the truck?

At the center of the cover – The cover comes down into the bed approximately 1 1/2 inches total at the latches (approx. 1/2 inch of that is soft rubber bumpers placed on the bottom of the latches). Virtually zero height is added to the bed. At the edges where the rubber seal touches the side rails, the thickness of this is negligible (approx. 1/16th inch!)

What is the thickness of the cover itself?

The flat panels are 1/2 inch in total thickness. Where the latches hit, the latches drop down into the bed approx another 1/2 inch (for a total of 1 1/2 inches only at the latch mechanism).

Describe the side profile/low profile of the cover?

When the cover is completely closed, the cover sits level with the side rails so it is completely flat.

How much does the cover weigh (when I remove it)?

Depending on the size of the cover, the weight runs from a minimum of 35 lbs and up to 45 lbs for the long beds. A good rule of thumb is that for a full-size truck with a short (6.5-ft bed), the cover itself weighs only 40 lbs. For shorter beds, it can go down to 35 lbs. For long beds, it is a maximum of 45 lbs.

If I want to completely remove the cover and mounting side rails, how easy is it to remove the cover? Please describe.

Simply reverse the installation: remove the fastening knobs and then remove the cover. Then remove the clamps and rails, and that's it!

    • BAK Industries say the cover is "Weatherproof". What does this mean?

The cover has been designed to ensure no water can penetrate the panels and damage the hinges. The cover also seals nicely at the front end and the tailgate of the truck so no water can enter there, and water simply rolls off the front and rear of the cover with ease. The BAKFlip cover is "level with the bed" so should water ever gather on the cover and be pushed to the any of the edges of the cover, it will simply roll off the cover! Should water try to enter the bed from the sides, it has quite a challenge to make it to the bed. First it has to work itself under the side rubber (EPDM) seal. Should any droplets gather there, it would have to work itself over the lip of the mounting rail. Should water ever get that far, it will be automatically caught by the extruded side rail, which acts like a small gutter. Water collected in the "gutter" of the side rail is quickly expelled through the tubes at the front of the truck. In all of BAK’s tests, it is very rare that water will ever make beyond the lip of the side rail, and if it does, it is only a couple of drops. However, even if these "couple of drops" make it to that point, they have no chance of getting into the bed as this water is caught by a secondary "gutter" that ensures your bed will remain dry!

How many drain hoses are there with this cover?

There are 2 drain hoses (one on each side at the front of each mounting rail) to ensure the expedient and efficient expulsion of any water collected in the "extruded gutter" of the mounting rails! It is very rare that any water ever gets to the channel in the mounting rail, much less into the tube at the front of the truck.

I understand that water is channeled to the front of the truck, where water is expelled through the drain hoses. Does water run towards the back of the truck and get into the bed?

Absolutely not! Water runs along the inner track, which acts as a "rain gutter" as well. This track is open ended at the back. This means that if the truck is parked uphill, water is collected in the inner track and drains right at the back edge of the tailgate and runs out of the back of the truck, leaving your cargo area dry. Water ever getting to this "channeled gutter" is really rare under any circumstance (see the question above).

How does the cover operate in snow, ice, extreme sun and other seasonal extremes?

The BAKFlip has superior weather resistance in all types of weather. This cover is designed to outlast your truck, and it can handle all the sun, rain, snow, ice, and even hail, or whatever Mother Nature throws at it.

How do you seal the cover at the tailgate and at the front edge?

The cover overlaps the front edge and the tailgate. Under the cover at both ends, there is a high-quality pressure seal that seals water and dust out.

    • How does the cover lock?

The BAKFlip cover comes with a Tamperproof Latching system that latches each panel securely on both sides of the truck! There are no visible locks or keyholes or latches as the cover latches and secures from underneath. This makes the BAKFlip Tonneau Cover one of the most secure tonneau cover on the market. When the cover is closed, and the tailgate is locked, you now have a secure trunk!

      How does the cover unlatch?

Simply open the tailgate, and from either the driver's side or the passenger side, gently pull the spring-loaded latch release and the latch will release for that panel. Fold the panel forward and repeat with the next panel, and the next panel until all panels are unlatched and folded up towards the cab of the truck.

Can I travel with all panels open and folded up against the back window (cab) of the truck?

Absolutely! The locking arms will hold the cover in place up against the back of your cab, and you can safely travel with it in this position. An added benefit is that the cover protects the back of your truck and glass from the cargo in your bed that you are carrying!

Can I use this cover with my 5th wheel or gooseneck trailer!

Absolutely! This was designed to work best when pulling 5th wheel trailers as many of BAK’s customers pull them. When you don't have your 5th wheel connected, your truck bed is as secure as a trunk with easy access to all areas of your truck bed. However, when you want to hook up the 5th wheel, you simply fold the cover all the way up and against the rear cab (window) of the truck. Hook up your 5th wheel or gooseneck trailer and you are ready to go! Once you get where you are going and disconnect the trailer, unfold the cover and return to the fully closed position and you have a secure trunk again.

Can I travel with 1 panel open? / Can I travel with the cover partially open?

Yes, you can secure the BAKFlip G2 cover in the "partially open" position! At BAK Industries, they have installed "D-rings" on the top front edge of the cover (on both the passenger and driver's side), so with bungee cords (that you provide), you are able to secure the cover in a partially open position and travel with it this way!

Does the cover rattle, shutter, or make any noise when going down the road?

Absolutely not! As each panel securely and snugly latches to the bed, there is no rattling or noise at all associated with this cover!

Does this cover work with "over-the-rail" toolboxes?

Unfortunately not. Each cover is designed to fit a full and open truck bed perfectly.

Does this cover work with toolboxes that are down inside the bed?

Yes – As long as the toolbox is a minimum of 1 1/2 inches below the side rails, the cover will fit perfectly.

    • How long does it take to install a cover?

Professional installers – 10 minutes. Average customer – 30 minutes.

I have a sprayed-in bedliner that goes over the side rails. Do I need to make any modifications to my bedliner or truck before installing the cover?

None whatsoever. The cover and hardware will fit perfectly on top of all sprayed-in bedliners without any modifications to your truck or the bedliner!

I have diamond plate side rail covers. Can this cover be installed over diamond plate side rail covers?

No. The rails cannot attain a good weather-resistant seal against diamond plate bed caps.

I have a plastic bedliner in my truck. Do I have to make any modifications to the bedliner to install the cover?

That depends on what type of plastic bedliner you have (see below):

      • IF YOUR PLASTIC BEDLINER GOES UNDER THE SIDE RAILS (but goes up and over the front rail and tailgate): No problem! You will not need to make any adjustments to the plastic bedliner to install this cover.
      • IF YOU HAVE A TAILGATE PROTECTOR: Tailgate protectors do not present any problem for this cover. Whether you have a factory-installed or an aftermarket tailgate protector, or if your tailgate liner comes over the top edge of your tailgate, none of these will present a problem when installing the cover.
      • IF YOUR PLASTIC BEDLINER GOES OVER THE SIDE RAILS: You must modify your bedliner to install this cover! Some retailers simply say "fits on all bedliners!" This is not the straight truth. This cover will fit if you carve 3 holes in each side to be able to clamp the rails to the bed. What they have found at BAK is that no matter how neat they do this, it always looks shabby. As a result, the best recommendation and the bottom line is that BAK Industries strongly recommends that you trim the portion of the bedliner that comes over the side rails so that the side wall of the plastic bedliner goes up to and under the rail, but not over the side rail. The reason for this is that over-the-rail bedliners prevent you from being able to clamp the hardware to the side rails as they cover them up. These side rails need to be trimmed off so that the RollBak Tonneau's side mounting rails can be clamped to the inside lip of the side rail. If you are making this adjustment, this is a great opportunity for you to convert your over-the-rail plastic bedliner into an under-the-rail bedliner (where the liner only overlaps the front rail and the tailgate edge)! These over-the-side rail bedliners must be cut back so not to interfere with the truck's original side rails. To cut the liner's rail covers off is a fairly simple and straightforward process that allows the secure installation of the mounting rails to your truck rails. To request that the customer trim these plastic side rail covers off of your one-piece liner is not a unique request. To ensure a weather-resistant barrier with the installation of any tonneau cover, and to be able to clamp the mounting brackets onto the side rails, you must remove the part of the bedliner that covers the side rails. Please do not cut off the portion of the bedliner that covers the front rail or tailgate. Process of trimming an over-the-rail bedliner is as follows: Slide the one-piece liner out of the bed.
Clamp a straight edge along the line where you wish to cut the cover (right at or just below the rail, not above it).
A jigsaw with a fine blade works great, and you simply follow the straight edge with the saw. Any burs or rough edges can be smoothed out with a file or sandpaper.
(Others are successful using the same straight edge tactic from outside of the liner using a razor knife. They remove the liner from the truck, and from outside of the liner, they use a razor knife to cut the rail off.) The most preferred method is to use a jigsaw.
Do the factory-installed plastic side rail covers that came with my truck (i.e, Ford, Toyota, Nissan, Chevrolet/GMC, 06+ Dodge, etc.) need to be removed?

Absolutely not! You can install the cover directly on top of all OEM factory rails with no modification whatsoever.

Are any holes drilled in the truck?

No! No holes are drilled into your truck! You do not need to drill anything during the installation.

I plan to occasionally remove the cover and put a "slide-in camper" into the truck bed. Will I need to remove the mounting rails?

Yes. You will need to remove the mounting rails so they are not damaged by the slide-in camper. This will ensure that the mounting rails do not get damaged in any way.

For the Nissan Titan with the Utili-Track System, what adjustments must be made to install this cover?

To install the BAKFlip on the Titan, you simply unbolt the Utili-Track, and flip the track over (with the functional side of the Utili-Track rail still facing into the bed). Flipping and reinstalling the Utili-Track lowers the track by 1 inch from under the side rails, which is just enough to clamp down the RollBak rails properly.

Note: This is a wonderful feature! Many customers ask if BAK hardware can bolt directly into the Utili-Track system. The answer is "no" but it gets better. If BAK hardware were to bolt directly into the Utili-Track system, you would have very little (if any) usable Utili-Track area to mount other accessories. This simple "work around" allows you to simply flip the "Utili-Track" over, which lowers it by only one inch. This means that you will not lose any of your ability to use the Utili-Track for tie-downs as the mounting rails will be clamped directly above it.

For the 05 Nissan Frontier with the Utili-Track System, what adjustments must be made to install this cover?

None. The cover installs normally just above the Utili-Track as there is just enough space above the Utili-Track to do a normal installation onto the inside lip of Frontier's side rail. This leaves your Utili-Track completely open to utilize with any of your accessories.

Which model of this cover is the easiest to install?

All cover installations are virtually identical. In the case of the Nissan Titan , as described above, you need to flip the track over to have access to the side rails to clamp the side mounting rails. Aside from that, virtually all installations are identical. All of the BAKFlip covers are very easy to install.

Does this cover work with "flip-out" bed extenders that flip over onto the tailgate?

Absolutely! The cover works with all bed extenders.

    • How is the cover cleaned?

The cover is washed and cleaned with the same stuff that you safely use on your vehicle to wash and wax your vehicle. Once washed and dried, BAK recommends a 303 Protectant® as your first choice. You can also use an Armor All® and Son-of-A-Gun® that will also preserve the finish of your cover for years to come. Do not use chemicals such as Pine Sol®, Windex®, or any cleaners using ammonia or other harsh chemicals. Avoid use of all abrasive-type cleansers as they may dull the finish. At BAK, they are big fans of the 303 Protectant, which is basically "Armor All on Steroids" as it also has a 100% UV protectant built in.
