      Progressive Torque

The Progressive Torque limited-slip differential (PTD™) is Eaton's next generation of torque control technology, providing improved traction in the most challenging terrain. This heavy duty solution features unique precision forged gears with a three-pitch design, giving the unit increased strength and capability over standard single-pitch bevel gear products. Equipment operators will experience an immediate response to changing surface conditions as the exclusive gear design and unbalanced gear meshing will provide a torque bias of up to 3.5:1. Additionally, the PTD is suitable for both original equipment or replacement applications and is engineered to work effectively in front-axle, rear-axle and inter-axle applications.

      Progressive Torque Differential™ (PTD™) Operation

The Progressive Torque Differential (PTD) is a torque sensitive "progressive" limited slip differential. It powers both drive wheels, yet permits differential action to compensate for wheel speed differences. The PTD is made up of two side gears and four pinion gears (units with two pinions are also available). A series of unique gear teeth are repeated about the gear face, each defining a different line of action and torque lever position. The unique tooth profiles of the side gear and pinion gear can only mate together in a specific way. This synchronized arrangement of the profiles creates the "progressive" torque biasing operation of the PTD. When traction is needed the pinions begin to rotate. The amount of rotation is the deviation angle, which progressively increases the torque biasing action through the gear set. The torque bias increases until the required bias is delivered up to 3.5:1 bias ratio.

      Primary Applications

Below is a list of common applications for the Progressive Torque Differential:

      • Construction
      • Agriculture
      • Mining
      • Forestry

      Detroit Gearless

The power of lockers isn't just for the big rigs. The serious traction provided by Eaton's Gearless® Locker dramatically changes both the fun and function of any ATV. Gearless is a speed sensitive automatic locking differential. It powers both wheels, yet automatically permits differential operation to compensate for wheel speed differences that occur when making a turn or driving over obstacles. By eliminating individual wheel spin-out you will be able to go new places and work on a much greater range of driving surfaces.

Light Utility Vehicles (LUV) that haul loads on construction sites, golf courses and factory floors can also benefit from the smooth locking operation of the Detroit Gearless Locker. This durable and reliable locker increases traction performance on any surface including slippery mud, wet pavement, loose dirt and ice. The Detroit Gearless Locker doesn't rely on internal gear teeth, so noise is almost non existent. Instead, the units locking power relies on high strength clutch discs energized by a Tunkenel-V Power Driver cross pin.

      Operation

The Gearless Locker has left and right clutch housing that are coupled to the side gear through a set of friction plates. The drive pin that is fixed to the differential support case is located between the two clutch housings. Each clutch housing has 'V' grooves where the drive pin is nested. When the differential support case and drive pin rotate, the drive pin runs up the ramp of the 'V' grooves and separates the two clutch housings. This motion squeezes the friction plates together or 'energizes', the torque flow travels from the differential support case through the components to the axle and wheels.

When driving straight, in either forward or reverse, both friction packs are energized and 50% of the torque flows to each drive wheel. However, when driving in a turn, the friction pack for the outside wheel is de-energized and 100% of the available torque is transmitted to the inside drive wheel. The faster turning (outside) wheel overruns, until both wheel speeds match and the Gearless Locker automatically re-energizes to the fully locked position.

      IntelliTrac

      Electronic limited slip differential

IntelliTrac™ is Eaton’s new electronically controlled limited slip differential, providing fully variable torque distribution from open to full-lock. Powerful hydraulic actuation and precision electronic controls enable industry leading 100-millisecond response time. This enhances vehicle stability control by redirecting power to the wheels with traction and maintaining vehicle momentum in advance of brake and throttle interventions from Stability Control.

In rear-wheel drive applications, IntelliTrac can neutralize oversteer (when the vehicle is turning more sharply than the intended path) by transferring torque from the outside to inside wheel. In front-wheel-drive applications, torque is transferred from the inside to outside wheel to reduce understeer (vehicle turning less sharply than intended). This provides enhanced driver control and confidence in vehicle handling and response.

IntelliTrac eLSD is customizable for a wide variety of applications, including a bolt-on option to a FWD transaxle or rear axle, or fully integrated within the rear axle.

      MLocker (G80)

Eaton's MLocker® (G80) mechanical locking differential provides drivers best-in-class traction without the need for push-buttons, shift knobs or other intervention method. Utilizing a flyweight mechanism and self-energizing clutch system, the Eaton MLocker (G80) engages in low traction situations when a wheel speed difference of 100 RPM or greater (left-to-right) is detected. Automatic locking takes place within a fraction of a second, providing the driver with increased safety and confidence when traveling on wet or icy roads, gravel, mud and dirt. The mechanical locker is also compatible with existing anti-lock brake and vehicle stability systems, which simplifies platform integration for global OEMs.

      MLocker (G80) Operation

During normal driving conditions, the MLocker (G80) functions as a light-bias limited slip differential. When a low-traction situation occurs that causes a wheel speed difference greater than 100 RPM, a flyweight mechanism opens to engage a latching bracket. The stopped flyweight triggers a self-energizing clutch system, forcing a cam plate to ramp against a side gear. Cam plate ramping will continue to increase until both axles turn at the same speed (full lock), which prevents further wheel slip. When the need for improved traction is gone - unlocking occurs automatically and the differential resumes normal operation.

      Features

      • Automatic locking and unlocking
      • Best-in-class traction
      • Maintenance free
      • Compatible with existing anti-lock brake and vehicle stability systems

      Primary Applications

Below is a list of common applications for the Eaton MLocker (G80):

      • Light- and Medium-duty Commercial Vehicles
      • Sport Utility Vehicles
      • Military Vehicles
      Eaton Posi

The Eaton Posi limited-slip differential prevents wheel slip before it can get started. To do that, carbon disc clutch packs, preloaded by a central spring assembly, are located behind each differential side gear. When torque input increases the clamping load on the clutch packs increases. That causes the chatter-free clutch packs to grab and transfer power to the other wheel.

Muscle cars, hot rods and mild off-road vehicles should look to Eaton's limited-slip differential for their traction answers. And the fact is, Eaton's Posi units are virtually bullet proof.

      Features

      • Superior rebuildable design
      • Race-bred carbon friction discs
      • Automatic limited-slip functionality
      Suretrac

The Suretrac performs like an open differential under "normal" conditions, and automatically transfers torque to the wheel with better traction when conditions warrant. The Suretrac limited slip differential responds instantly to torque feedback, anytime, at any speed. Suretrac reduces one wheel spin-outs from disabling the vehicle and also limits shock loads on drive train components to extend their life.

Suretrac transfers torque flow by combining conventional type differential components with additional friction packs. The special coated friction plates react to movement between the gears and the differential case. The wheel with the least traction is locked and power is transferred to the wheel that has the best traction.

Two rugged and durable versions are available. The Suretrac GA series consists of standard type differential gears and spider shafts, a series of friction and reaction plates, and actuators. The plates are compressed by the actuators as they separate due to the ramp angle mesh with the spider shafts.

The Suretrac GS series is similar, but doesn't use actuators. The friction and reaction plates are compressed directly by the gear teeth separating forces. A great number of plates are used to achieve this traction control performance.

Suretrac differentials complement Eaton's rugged NoSPIN brand locking differentials and the reliable helical gear type Truetrac brand torque biasing differentials.

      NoSPIN

NoSPIN® maximizes traction by delivering 100% of the torque and power to both drive wheels. It is engineered to keep both wheels in a constant drive mode, yet has the ability to automatically "unlock" during vehicle turning to permit necessary wheel speed differentiation. The NoSPIN is "trouble free" and does not require special lubricants or service adjustments. Conventional differentials allow vehicles to get stuck when they lose traction on one side. NoSPIN continues to drive your vehicle even if one of the wheels is suspended in the air. Eliminate your traction problems with NoSPIN!

The newest member of the Eaton transmission lineup is the all-new Procision 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. For medium-duty truck owners, the smart features in the Eaton Procision 7-speed automatic transmission deliver more savings and driver confidence than the competition.

An important part of learning the benefits of Procision is understanding dual-clutch technology versus a torque converter automatic. A dual-clutch automatic transmission combines the gear efficiency of a manual with the smooth shifting of an automatic. It consists of two independent but interlocked manual transmissions, each with its own independent clutch. Electronically controlled and hydraulic-actuated gear changes are achieved by pre-selecting the correct gear and "swapping" torque between the two clutches. The result is smooth and continuous delivery of torque to the wheels under all shift conditions.
