FAQ

What causes the transmission to shudder or shake when it shifts?

Shudders are caused by frictionally depleted fluid. This condition is called “stick-slip”, and it’s felt when clutches don’t slide smoothly when coming to a stop. It’s considered a low-speed friction problem.

Why should I use an additive if I’m using a synthetic oil?

Lubegard provides far more heat reduction, heat-transfer, seal compatibility (an issue with synthetic fluids) and anti-wear properties. It’s also synchronizer friendly even with the new fiber types.

Can I tell just by looking if my transmission fluid is okay, or does it require some sort of chemical analysis?

The sight alone will not tell you the condition of an ATF. Here are the four main ways to determine an ATF’s condition:

Does it look burnt? Does it smell burnt? What’s the condition of the viscosity, is it thin like the new ATF or is it thicker and become oxidized? What’s the service history? Is it before or after its recommended service interval? Do you know its service history? If you do not know this inspection by a transmission expert is best to determine the condition of the fluid and the transmission itself.

How often should I change my transmission’s fluid?

Check your owner’s manual for their recommended intervals. Then it depends on how you drive your car. Most drivers follow under the “severe conditions” category. Examples of severe conditions: traffic, stop & go, idling for periods at a time, hauling, high temp, dirty roads & etc. If you fall under severe do not exceed 60,000 miles even with synthetic ATF.

What is the best or recommended method for changing ATF? Should I have the “pan dropped” with a filter replacement, or should I have the transmission flushed with a fluid exchange machine?

Many variables play a factor first check your owner’s manual recommendations. Then it will depend on the mileage since the last service & how your vehicle has been driven.

If the vehicle is new or the recommended service intervals have been followed, it’s safe to flush either with or without a flush machine at either 30,000 or at the recommended service interval.

If it’s unknown when the last flush was performed, the last flush was performed over the recommended interval, or the vehicle has been subject to severe driving conditions ask a transmission expert to evaluate its condition to determine if a pan drop is necessary.

Should the transmission’s oil pan be removed at recommended service intervals for particulate inspection?

It’s a good idea, however, if the fluid is clean it’s not necessary. If the fluid is dark or smells burnt it’s certainly good to remove the pan and inspect for any malfunctions or debris and replace the filter.

If I do a pan drop and do not remove all of the used fluid is it safe to leave some of the LUBEGARD Transmission Flush in the transmission?

LUBEGARD Transmission Flush does not contain solvents or other components harmful to the transmission so it is safe if some is left behind. Detergents and dispersants will continue to safely remove varnish and sludge keeping them in suspension until the next fluid change.

Why do I need to use LUBEGARD Transmission Flush?

Automatic transmissions need to keep the systems free of varnish and sludge and other undesirable by-products that cause wear and reduce the performance and life of the transmission.

Is your Tranny flush strong enough without using it in a machine?

Yes! Do note however that the transmission will not get as clean because you can’t get the fluid all out without a machine.

I have never flushed a power steering system before, why is it now necessary?

Power steering systems are the most neglected system on a vehicle. Regular preventative maintenance with a flush every 30,000 miles will extend the life of the system and ensure safe operation for the vehicle's steering.

I'm concerned how LUBEGARD Power Steering Flush will affect the seals and hoses in my power steering system?

LUBEGARD Power Steering Flush actually conditions and revitalizes seals and hoses as it cleans and conditions the entire system especially when replacing worn components. It is very beneficial to rubber components and extends their life.

Can I use KOOLER KLEEN to flush the external mounted oil cooler on my vehicle?

KOOLER KLEEN Cooler Line Flush is the product of choice for professionals to flush out the external cooler and lines when replacing failed engines, transmissions or any application running an external cooler.

What happens if I don't remove all of the KOOLER KLEEN from my lines or cooler?

KOOLER KLEEN Cooler Line Flush is easily blown out of the system with compressed air. It’s safe to use & does not contain any caustics or water. Small residual amounts of retained flush will quickly evaporate as the transmission or engine reach operating temperature.

I need to get better fuel mileage out of my vehicle, is there anything I can add to my engine that will help accomplish this?

LUBEGARD Bio-Tech Engine Oil Protectant is formulated to contain friction modifiers that reduce the internal friction of the engine and help reduce fuel consumption.

Can I increase the mileage between oil changes if I use LUBEGARD BIO-TECH Engine Oil Protectant?

LUBEGARD Bio-Tech Engine Oil Protectant will improve the oxidative stability of regular GF-4 engine oil by 30%, allowing greater mileage accumulation between oil changes. However, results can vary depending on multiple factors, such as driving conditions, the base oil used, etc. In combination with other LUBEGARD products, some have seen up to a 10% increase in MPG! Frequent physical observation (oil analysis) of the condition of the oil is needed to tell when your oil should be changed if you do not follow the recommended service intervals found in the vehicle owner’s manual.

How often do I need to change my engine oil when I use the Lubegard Engine Oil Protectant?

It depends on the type of base oil used. However, LUBEGARD has been proven to extend the life of normal conventional oil (non-synthetic GF4) up to 30%. For instance, without Lubegard the oil would need to be changed at 3,000 miles, but with LUBEGARD it can most likely be extended to 4,500. Frequent physical observation (oil analysis) of the condition of the oil is needed to tell when your oil should be changed if you do not follow the recommended service intervals found in the vehicle owner’s manual.

Can I use LUBEGARD BIO-TECH Engine Oil Protectant in my new car or truck?

Yes, LUBEGARD Bio-Tech Engine Oil Protectant is formulated to work with new engines and modern engine oils to enhance efficiency, extend oil life and add protection from wear and sludge and varnish formation.

We recommend waiting to add Lubegard Bio-Tech Engine Oil Protectant until after the initial break-in period of 3,000 miles.

Can I use LUBEGARD BIO-TECH Engine Oil Protectant in my old car or truck?

Yes, LUBEGARD Bio-Tech Engine Oil Protectant is formulated to work in older cars and trucks with older as well as modern engine oils to enhance efficiency, extend oil life and add protection from lower additive levels of modern oils that may not meet the requirements of older vehicles.

Some engine additives like Lucas make the oil thick and hard to pump when it's cold, does LUBEGARD BIO-TECH Engine Oil Protectant change the oils viscosity in any negative way?

LUBEGARD Bio-Tech Engine Oil Protectant has no negative effect on viscosity. For instance, a multi-viscosity engine oil required by the OEM for warranty will remain the way it was intended even with the addition of LUBEGARD.
