The aerodynamic efficiency of the Evolution, just like that of the conventional Freightliner Cascadia models, is tested in the manufacturer's one-of-a-kind wind tunnel specially built for Class 8 trucks. Run Smart Predictive Cruise analyzes GPS and navigation data for the route ahead and automatically adjusts the speed to save fuel. The renewed Detroit Diesel DD15 engine that the Evolution is fitted with is 100 pounds lighter than the previous version and features an asymmetric turbocharger and an amplified fuel injection system.

The regular 2014 Freightliner Cascadia models carry over with a selection of three Detroit Diesel engines (DD13, DD15, and DD16) and the available Cummins X15. The power output of 350-600 hp is put down to the wheels via Eaton and Allison transmissions.
