Installation
Replacing a factory radio with an aftermarket radio can add power and fidelity, but all too often results in a loss of functionality. Small wonder, with the car manufacturers routing all manner of things, like OnStar, the seatbelt chime and turn signal clicker, as well as nav system audio all through the radio. One thing that usually goes out the window is RAP (Retained Accessory Power), a function that leaves the accessories like the radio, auxiliary amps and added-on satellite radios powered up after shut down until a door is opened or some time has elapsed. These harnesses/interfaces, generically called turn-on adapters are also capable of intercepting the commands from the body computer that ramrods RAP, and restoring RAP functionality to an aftermarket radio, as well as providing 10 Amps at 12 V to run an accessory amp or radio. Depending on your specific vehicle, there may be a number of other functions as well.
