Universal Sound Suppression Wedge Kit by Ballistic Sound®. Size: 18" x 32". Square: 4.0 Sq. Ft. Thickness: 0.087". It's called a wedge kit because the box is wedge-shaped and easier to ship and shelve. The Ballistic sound-deadening material inside is the same, rolled up in a tube instead of shipped flat. The typical car door is made from thin sheet metal that admits road noise freely, as well as making noise of its own, rattling and popping like a drumhead in tune with irregularities in the road surface. Ballistic sound suppression composite damps both sources of noise, converting the sound energy into heat and dissipating it noiselessly. Odds are you have speakers mounted in that same thin metal door; applying Ballistic sound-deadening strengthens and stiffens the steel in the speaker's mounting, letting it convert more of the power of your stereo into usable sound instead of simply making the door panel move in sympathy. Your stereo will actually sound louder, partly because of the increased efficiency of the speaker, and partly because you've eliminated so much road noise that competes for your brain's attention. Ballistic will also keep more heat inside your car during the winter, and heat out during the summer, making your interior more comfortable regardless of the season.
Ballistic's material is thicker than the competition's, and consequently carries more mass per unit area, resulting in a sound deadener that has 29% more mass per ft². Take a sniff at some of the competitors; they smell like a road-paving crew's shoes. Ballistic's odor-free Perma-Stik adhesive is resistant to moisture and mineral oils, and won't separate, negating its effectiveness. The better your sound-dampening material adheres to the surface, the more effective it is.
