Cadillac XT4 Maintenance
Introduced at the 2018 New York Auto Show, the XT4 marked Cadillac's first foray into the lucrative compact luxury crossover market. One of the automotive industry's oldest automakers is one of the last ones to enter this crowded segment, and the rivalry with well-established market leaders like the Audi Q5 and Lexus NX is going to be fierce. Yet, the Cadillac XT4 is well-armed for the battle. It offers an edgy exterior created by a team of young designers, user-friendly interior with the latest tech, and confident performance, all at a price kept within the reach of young people that this crossover is targeted at.
The Cadillac XT4 slots below the XT5 and apparently borrows plenty of styling cues from its bigger brother, while being more dynamic and expressive. Up front, there is an eye-catching combination of the signature vertical grille and distinctive L-shaped daytime running lights. The Sport trim level got a black-painted wire mesh grille and window frames. The rear end look is dominated by a pair of tall tail lights that stretch up to the sporty roof spoiler. Across the lineup, there are LED lights front and rear. Two wheel size options are available at launch, measuring 18 and 20 inches. Overall, Cadillac XT4 accessories and parts of the exterior are create an athletic look.
Cadillac's first compact crossover is quite roomy for the segment, offering class-leading legroom and sufficient cargo space with the rear seats down, measuring 48.9 cubic feet at launch. Blended together, Cadillac XT4 parts and accessories of the interior create an ergonomic, clean, and modern design. The seats are generously bolstered, while the leather-wrapped steering wheel features a thick three-spoke design for both comfortable vehicle control and sporty feel. The interior look depends on the trim level – according to Cadillac's “Y”-trim strategy, there should be many different grade-specific styling cues and features that greatly differentiate the available trim levels from each other. The Cadillac XT4 offers several different “environments” to choose from within its three trim grades – the base Luxury, upmarket Premium Luxury, and driver-oriented Sport. These “environments” are basically various combinations of seat materials and colors, trim materials (metallic, wood, carbon fiber), ambient lighting options, and trim-specific Cadillac XT4 accessories like a different steering wheel and pedals. The CUE infotainment system is there, but this time with a user-friendly rotary controller and physical buttons instead of touch controls. Some of the available tech features include wireless charging, navigation, NFC device pairing, and a full suite of driver's aids.
At launch, the Cadillac XT4 comes with a sole 2.0-liter turbocharged inline-four making 237 horsepower and 258 lb-ft, mated to a 9-speed automatic. The twin-clutch all-wheel-drive is optional, capable of decoupling the rear axle for fuel savings. The front suspension consists of MacPherson struts, while the rear wheels are suspended with a multi-link arrangement. Adaptive dampers are available on Sport models. There is a new electric-hydraulic braking system designed to provide improvements in fuel mileage.
