Carlson® 19149 - Front Brake Pad Electronic Wear Sensor

The brake pad wear sensor is mounted on the brake pad and routed through the caliper. The sensor contacts the brake rotor when the brake pad wears to a predetermined thickness, signaling the light on the dash so the driver can be alerted to the need for brake pad replacement. The sensor is positioned in the pad to leave enough thickness to allow time for the repair to be made. However, if the warning is ignored and the vehicle continues to be driven, the pads can wear to the point that the backing plates contact and destroy the rotors with subsequent brake failure.
