A red splitter button always comes with a 13-speed transmission; blue color means that the gearbox has 15 speeds, and gray splitter indicates that the truck you are driving is equipped with an 18-speed transmission.

To install a new shift knob in your semi truck equipped with a 13- or 18-speed gearbox, you have to undo four air lines connected to your splitter button and range selector. They are attached to your shift knob via quick-connect fittings. You just push their ends up with a screwdriver and pull all lines out. Take a photo or mark the lines and fittings to make sure that you don’t mix them up later. After that, you can screw off the shift knob from the lever. If you want to use an extension, you have to unscrew the jam nut also. Screw the extension tight. Use extensions for air lines, screw the jam nut, and then screw the new shift knob on top. Don’t forget to connect all air lines to the knob.
