SteelCraft® 221600 - 3" Black Round Side Bars

I installed these on a 2007 Jeep Commander Limited. I would say I have average mechanical skills for a non-mechanic and I've got a basic set of tools. Let me start with the positive. These look really nice and, once fully installed, are super sturdy. I wasn't sure what to expect, given the low price, but I'm very happy with the quality and appearance. The end of one side bar was dented upon arrival, but this is hidden under the truck, so I didn't really care. Now the caveats: Each side bar has two plastic end caps that pop off when you're removing the bubble wrap and could easily be overlooked and thrown away, so beware. The frame mounts were stamped according to their placement, e.g., "DR" for driver's side, rear. However, the two rear mounts were improperly stamped, so don't trust the markings. The directions are fairly clear and the order of steps should be followed. Here's my biggest gripe: the 10mm bolts they provide are in some cases barely long enough to get threaded and in two cases not long enough, once the washers and lock washers are added. To save yourself a lot of time and frustration, replace the 10mm bolts they provide with some that are at least 60mm long. Trust me! The install took about two hours, most of which was fighting to get the provided bolts started. Finally gave up, made a run to Ace, and then finished up in about 15 minutes.

Great addition to the truck. Easy to install, no drilling required!

First side was a little difficult to install but once I figured it out, the second side went on with ease. Was a nice finishing touch to my Jeep.

Instruction left a bit to be desired, but simply enough to figure out. Had to remove the old ones form 21 years ago as they were about to fall off. To remove old ones, you'll need a cutting torch! Or a cut-off wheel.

These side bars are beautiful! Reasonably priced. Thank you.

These steps were extremely easy to install, about 15 mins a side. Will say it worked out great to have a second person to hold them in place while getting bolts started. Coating on the steps looks very good which mine are black. Side steps aren’t for everyone but at the end of the day makes getting in and out of the truck easy.

The bars look great and only took about 2 hours to install. They are defiantly very sturdy and should stand up well.

The side bars are well designed with the cab body bushing mounting brackets and especially the center supports. The parts were also well marked for driver's side and passenger side - no confusion during installation and the printed instructions were actually legible! Now my wife can enter the truck with a convenient step and less trouble. Highly recommended.

I use the bars to reach the roof so I don’t have to step on my car’s trim interior. The bars were easy to install and look great. They’re a little too close to the car body to get a good step with leverage up to the roof. Still sorta do the trick though. 4/5
