But since calipers and rotors are hidden behind wheels and tires, it’s not easy to inspect the thickness of your brake pads. Now, with this high-quality brake pad sensor, you can make sure your brake pads are in top shape without having to climb under the vehicle. To help you keep an eye on their condition the Centric Brake Pad Sensor automatically alerts you the moment they become worn to the point where replacement is required.
The sensor is mounted on the brake pad and routed through the caliper, so its wires come in contact with the metal surface of the brake rotor when the friction material on the pads wears down to a predetermined thickness. The sensor is a sacrificial component and if it illuminates the dash light it must be replaced along with the pads to ensure the warning system will continue to function.
