Product Details

Universal 16" Side Bracket Kit (4916) by Draw-Tite®. A sturdy hitch from Draw-Tite is engineered and built from the ground up to fit your vehicle perfectly, and allow you to tow safely and easily.

Installation

Not every truck has a bolt-on trailer hitch option. You may need to fabricate a hitch to meet your needs, and it’s a lot easier to start with one of these universal kits than to start from scratch. With a prefabricated and painted receiver, and mix-and-match end plates, you may simply need to drill a few holes. Other kits are prefabricated, but require some simple welding between the end plates and the cross bar. That makes fitting a hitch receiver a job that has the truck back in service in an hour or less, instead of sitting in the shop for the better part of a day while a complete hitch is fabricated. Don’t take chances that the fabricator who’s building your hitch is building it to carry the load you’ll be hauling: with one of these kits, you’ll have a tow rating that’s been engineered into it by the manufacturer.

Fit...Not Perfect but It Works
You have to cut the excesses on each side of the hitch, otherwise it rubs the muffler pipes. Then, the spare tire must be deflated to 50% so that it will fit back into place. This work must be done by a professional.

Very Nice Trailer Hitch
Finally got around to installing it. It looks great on my Colorado. I chose this one as the weight capacity is greater than the Colorado is ratted for, I'm a big believer in a little stronger is always the way to go. My 1/2 inch pneumatic impact gun picked this job to break, so I used hand tools. Have a big breaker bar as Chevy uses a thread locker and they fight you. (buying a new 1/2 impact today). I used my ramps and backed my Colorado just part way up to increase my working room and then varied my height as needed. (do not forget to chalk the wheels) The two vertical side plates are custom-made for the frame so it's important to have an assistant to help slide it into place as trying to do it by myself was impossible, as if it's just a little cocked it's a no-go. We even lubricated the plates and frame beams to help. But, that said there is nothing wrong with a nice tight fit.

Easy Peazy Installation
No cutting or drilling. Hardest part was holding the hitch up (on my back) while trying to install the washers and nuts.

Great Product
Fast shipping. Easy to follow instructions. A grinder definitely makes installation easier.

Almost Perfect
Installed on a 2013 Nissan Rogue. The second hole from the rear on the driver's side is slightly offset on the hitch. I believe this may be a manufacturing defect. I was still able to install the hitch, but the offset of the second hole meant I couldn't put in the third bolt (frontmost) because the hole in the hitch was now misaligned. I tried to angle it every way before fully tightening any bolts, but it would not align correctly. I was still able to install the two rearmost bolts on each side, creating a secure connection between the vehicle and the hitch.

Misleading Description
The hitch is good quality, and installs fairly easily, but there is no way to do it in 15 min. The installation instructions say 90 min for a professional shop. I am a mechanic, and it took me about 2.5 hrs ( I did have a 3-year-old helper). Just plan for the time. You will need a saw for cutting the bumper cover as well as sockets and wrenches.

Ease of Install and Perfect Fit
I just received and installed this hitch on my 2019 Acura RDX. I had read some installation guides that referred to lowering the muffler. I did not find that necessary and was able to tilt and guide the hitch around the rear of the two mufflers. I did need to pry the one muffler to the side by about 1/4" but the hitch slid right into place. Very important to use a torque wrench since the specified torque requires a pretty hefty force and I would never have thought to tighten it so much if I had used a standard non-torque socket wrench. The hitch looks good and sturdy. I'll be testing it later when my bike rack arrives. TRUCKiD had best price and very fast shipping. Very happy with the company and the product.
